Leadership Academy for Literacies and Civic Engagement

Crawford Middle School Leadership Academy is a full-school magnet where leadership, literacy, and civic engagement are at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to cultivate change, lead with impact, and achieve excellence by empowering every student to find their voice, take initiative, and engage meaningfully in their community.

Through our Leadership, Literacy, and Civic Engagement model, students develop critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills that prepare them for success in high school, college, and life. All students participate in a daily Leadership Course focused on self-awareness, goal setting, and creating leadership habits. Students also curate evidence for student-led conferences to showcase their growth.

Our Civics program offers hands-on, real-world learning through partnerships with community groups like Civic Lex. Students earn high school credit in Civic Literacy and complete projects toward the Kentucky Civic Seal.

Beyond the classroom, students engage in college visits, service-learning projects, and community leadership experiences. Our House System —Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, and Reveur — builds belonging, pride, and purpose in every student.

The Leadership Academy at Crawford proudly serves as the middle school sister magnet to Breckinridge Elementary’s Innovative Leadership and Civic Engagement Academy, providing a connected K–8 pathway for leadership, innovation, and civic growth.
